What is Homecoming?
Struggles and new beginnings
Homecoming is an annual tradition in many of the schools
in the United States. Usually held in late September or October;
towns, high schools, and colleges come together, more often than
not, around a banquet and/or a football game to welcome back former
residents and alumni
Traditional homecoming activities cover a wide array of festivities.
From football played on the school’s home field, to parades featuring
the school’s marching band, to the coronation of a Homecoming
King and Queen; it’s certainly an entertaining week!

New Downtown teen club
hopes to be more than ' Flava'
of the month
Memphis Business Journal
Fixing education with
after-school activities can be
quite a challenge. Just ask the
parent of any teen-ager.
However, that's why Anthony
Holmes, Richard Taylor and
Linda Taylor are opening Teen
Flava, an interactive dance,
video game and live music
entertainment club for children
ages 9-19 in Downtown
Memphis on Nov. 3.
Operating as Teen Flava LLC,
Holmes and the Taylors signed
a three-year lease for 4,500
square feet at 14 South
Second, between Madison and
Monroe.
Anthony Holmes, who owns
Reality Records, has been
working with kids for years
through schools and summer
camps, all the while trying to
mix education and
entertainment.
"They responded well to it, even
the high school kids," he says.
Teen Flava, which will have 10
employees, will organize
tournaments where kids can
play games like Madden
Football and NBA Live on a
variety of gaming systems, from
Playstation 3 to Nintendo Wii
and X-Box. The cover charge is
$5, with memberships ranging
from $5.99-$9.99 per month.
The company will hold weekly
dance contests, giveaways and
trivia contests.
"We try to incorporate
educational aspects with things
they like to do," Holmes says.
